Hot off the press and a 'phone call from Dave King, Bangor based guitarist! Our first Bull Bay Workshop - Dave has offered to join us on Saturday - here are the details!
I will be there ready to start at 11am on Saturday 31 July and would like a quiet(ish) place so that I can talk and listen easily to people. (We'll find somewhere nice!) I will bring a couple of spare guitars, lots of slides and bottlenecks and some handout material too. Lets hope that there are some interested people!
New owners – Calvin (Dad) and son Shane are nervously expecting us. Arrangements so far are that we can have free camping (they’ve been asked to pay for the field so they will fund that) and we will arrange some kind of food tokens for musicians for the weekend. I’m still chatting to them about the finer details but we will be fine!
I’d like to ask Weavils and Pete Latham to join us as bands again, and also Dave Dove, Robbie and Nigel Beck, Dayve Dean, Blues and Yellows!! And whoever I have asked please get in touch with me asap - I can tell you that there won’t be huge fees but petrol expenses and food tokens will be organised for bands for the weekend… hope this is ok.
The date;
Thursday 29th July – early bird session in the bar
Friday 30th Bands in the bar plus sessions
Saturday 31st 11a.m. Dave King Slide Guitar Workshop! Bring your own guitar or borrow one!
Bands in the bar in the afternoon plus sessions
Sunday 1st Session afternoon and evening
Monday 2nd clear field by 11am.
Facilities as before although I am assured that the outside loo is getting a makeover! We’ll be welcome to use the loos etc inside.
Meals will be reasonable priced for musicians and I am sorting out some food tokens for session musicians!
Please let me know as soon as you can if you will be joining us as I know the Shane needs numbers as soon as possible so he knows how much beer to buy in! I need actual names for food tokens!

All artists/bands welcome to bring their own PA’s – unfortunately due to limited budget PA will not be provided.
Due to the nature of the venue – this schedule is subject to change and will remain flexible!
Generally – if the weather is good, we like to sit outside and have endless informal sessions in the sunshine, wasps and dolphins come free! Everyone is welcome. If weather is poor – then the bar will be available for ‘bands’ or session to take place during the day and can take place around or instead of the ‘band’ sessions. Those of us who have been before know this isn’t as complicated as it sounds! The bands can play in the bar for ‘punters’ to enjoy and a session can take place in the restaurant at the same time. Be aware that the new landlord/owner Shane is very uncertain and has just spent the last couple of months renovating the Hotel at huge expense and I have assured him that we’ll treat the place with utmost respect. On his part he’s going to provide food tokens for all artists playing on the day they play – I’ll be giving him a NAMED list and all other meals will be reasonably priced bar meals. Suitable snacks for kids will also be available at the bar. He’s putting on some real ale!! And will be providing breakfast – unfortunately the prospect of 70 free breakfasts was rather overwhelming for him so he offered the food tokens instead which I think is still a very generous offer including free camping. Shane is arranging a room to be available for showers but there will be a reasonable cost to this – it may be on a rotation. It should work out at £1 a shower but may only be available at certain times of day depending on room bookings and the cleaning schedule.
I can allocate 1 food token per musician on the day they are performing.
Some petrol expenses for bands bringing PA.
I hope you are all happy with these arrangements. Anyone wishing to join in with the scheduled singers please come and say so – we are here to enjoy this fantastic hotel’s hospitality and enjoy great weekend of our favourite music, beer, sunshine and sea.
Look forward to seeing you all! Good luck Shane here’s to a great weekend! If there are any changes to this or you know anyone else who’d like to join us do invite them and if they want to be added to the list of performers then let me know. Although there are single names below – I have forwarded the list of ‘families’ who will be with us for food token and numbers.

The Bull Bay Music Festival News
Some sad, some happy and some 'photo's.
The sad News: Barry Finn who joined us in Anglesey sadly passed away last Friday 16th October after a short illness. I have passed on condolences on behalf of all the InAnyEvent team, friends and family via the MUDCAT forum where you can also see hundreds of tributes to him.
Tibute from Nigel Beck;
"This is so sad, we only met Barry this year at Bull Bay but he really made us laugh and he was so enthusiastic about the music, it was a pleasure to be around him. When we were at the session on Saturday night he made us chuckle so much, he leaned over to Jonathan and said in his deep gravelly American accent “Goddammit if I hear a another American song I’m gonna put a gun to my head”. Hahahaha what a guy. Then he proceeded to tell Jonathan a very funny story from his time in hospital, we had no idea he’d had a liver transplant.
We were next door to Barry on the camp site and the next morning we were talking and laughing about his conversation with Jonathan blissfully unaware that Barry was lying awake in the tent next to us. After Jonathan had related Barry’s funny story we were speculating on whether or not Barry had spiced the story up for effect, his voice piped up and said “It was all True” and we all had a good belly laugh.
I do remember Barry doing a fab version of Richard Thompsons “Down Where The Drunkards Roll” he LOVED English Folk Music!!!!
There was something refreshingly direct and honest about Barry that made you instantly like him. He'll be much missed."
